Preparing for Success

Before starting in Photoshop and following along with our video tutorial, it’s helpful to capture a reference image of your subject without their glasses. This provides a clean source for the eyes, which will be essential for retouching. Once you have your images, open both the reference and target photos (the ones with glare) in Photoshop.

Mastering Eyeglass Glare Removal

To remove eyeglass reflections effectively in Photoshop, the process begins by selecting the eyes from a reference image without glasses. Using the Lasso Tool, make a broad selection around the eyes and drag it onto the target image as a new layer. By temporarily changing the blending mode to “Difference,” you can align the eyes more quickly. Adjust their size and position using the Free Transform tool, ensuring they fit naturally with the subject’s face. Once aligned, revert the blending mode to “Normal” and blend the layers for a seamless look.

Blending is achieved by adding a layer mask and inverting it to hide the new eyes initially. With a soft brush set to white, gradually paint over the glare-covered areas to reveal the replacement eyes, ensuring the result looks natural by leaving slight hints of glare for authenticity. For images with different angles or sizes, proportional adjustments, and careful alignment are key to maintaining balance.
